NBA All-Star Predictions

Even though we’re only about a week into the season, there’s already been some great games and impressive individual performances.  Everyone knows the West is stacked, with 14 of ESPN’s top 20 players residing in that conference, but if you go all the way through the top 50, 22 of those players are in the Eastern Conference so it’s not as though they’re deprived of talent.  Picking 12 guys to represent each conference at the All-Star game this early in the season (and trying to guess who’ll be the two captains and who they’d draft with the new All-Star format) is definitely not an easy task, so I’ve decided to turn this into a season long challenge.

Everyone’s submitted their initial teams, and will then have an opportunity every two weeks to make two changes (a change is classified by either swapping players between the two teams or swapping a player from a team for a player not previously listed).  Everyone can use their bi-weekly changes to change their captains up until All-Star voting starts (last year that was Dec. 21st) and can use them to change starters and reserves up until the draft.

Notables:

  • 31 different players overall were selected
    • 5 players would be 1st time All-Stars (Simmons, Jokic, Tatum, Gobert, and LaVine)
  • 14 different players were selected to starting lineups
    • 7 players made everyone’s starting lineup (LeBron, Giannis, Embiid, Durant, Kawhi, AD, and Harden)
      • Curry and Oladipo were selected twice
      • Kemba, Kyrie, Westbrook, Griffin, and Simmons were all selected once
  • 9 players received only one selection (Big KAT, Horford, LaVine, CP3, Draymond, Beal, Aldridge, Hayward, and Griffin)
    • Each manager above selected 3 of these players
    • Blake Griffin was the only starter to not make any other team

We’ll make our first round of updates the week of November 5th.  Who do you think is the closest to what the actual teams will be? What players got snubbed?
