McConnell Trade Offer

While in the midst of live tweeting the 8787FB0A-EB57-4921-B5F9-54E072CCECB6horrendous shooting affair that was The Celtics vs The Sixers opening night, I came across a tweet about one of the true process pioneers. TJ McConnel, a young man that defines the Philly attitude with his hard playing style, involved in trade offers. Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquire tweeted this…

Keith Pompey TJ trade

McConnell, out of the University of Arizona, is in his fourth year with the Sixers. TJ signed with the team as an undrafted free agent and quickly became a fan favorite as well as a favorite of Coach Brett Brown.83F95585-43C4-4C10-9792-EE74707F1766 McConnell’s gritty, tireless, pesky western PA basketball style is something the Sixers and the fan base can and do get behind. The spark that comes with TJ entering the game, made him a first choice off the bench for Coach Brown. What TJ brings to the court doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet but his 6.3 points and 4.0 assists in 22 minutes last season shouldn’t be overlooked. There’s something special about a player like TJ, and we can’t undervalue what he brings.

TJ is a talented backup and this will not be the last offer Philadelphia receives for him. With Elton Brand now leading the front office for Philadelphia and the stacked backcourt of Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz, what is TJ’s role? Both Fultz and Simmons are better with the ball in their hands. Add in JJ and the minutes Landry Shamet received last night and that could lead to a much smaller role for McConnell this year. The 26 year old fan favorite did see 22 minutes in the opener against Boston, adding four points and three assists. 57229FEF-B478-4961-9DA3-0807B8BEB447I don’t think any Sixers fan wants to see TJ leave, but what would it take for you as a fan to be ok with it?
